Call for Entries: BREW Poetry Award 2024 Submissions

Poems must be submitted by 31 August 2024 for a chance to be honoured for lyrical brilliance and resonate with a global audience this year.

Australia, 17th Aug 2024, – The clock is ticking for poets around the globe to submit their work for the BREW Poetry Award hosted by The Chrysalis BREW Project. As the deadline of the 31st of August approaches, this is the final opportunity to participate in an accolade that celebrates the profound and evocative power of poetry. Established to honour lyrical and rhythmic compositions that resonate deeply with readers, the BREW Poetry Award seeks to recognise works that distil human experiences, emotions, and observations into a few impactful words.

The Chrysalis BREW Project’s founder, Esperanza Pretila, remarked, “The BREW Poetry Award is a tribute to the power of poetry in connecting with readers on a profound emotional level. By honouring poems that capture the essence of human experience and creativity, we aim to encourage and elevate poets at all stages of their literary journeys. This award celebrates not only the artistic merit of poetry but also its ability to resonate deeply and spark meaningful conversations. We look forward to discovering and showcasing the remarkable talent that continues to enrich the poetic landscape.”

The BREW Poetry Award features four primary categories designed to accommodate a diverse range of participants:

  • Open Category – This category is accessible to all poets, providing a platform for any individual to showcase their talent regardless of experience or age.
  • Primary School Category – Designed for young poets in primary or grade school, this category encourages budding writers to explore and express their creativity.
  • Secondary School Category – Targeted at secondary or high school students, this category supports and acknowledges the developing voices of teenage poets.
  • Tertiary Category – This is aimed at vocational, university, or college students, recognising the contributions of emerging poets within higher education institutions.
  •

Each category features two titles: the Judges’ Pick and the Community’s Pick. The Judges’ Pick is awarded based on the expert assessment of a distinguished panel of judges who evaluate creativity, emotional impact, technical proficiency, and overall poetic excellence. On the other hand, the Community’s Pick reflects the collective enthusiasm of poetry readers, emphasising works that resonate widely and garner substantial support from the public.

Winners in each category will receive not only recognition and a digital “Poet’s Badge” but also the opportunity to have their work featured in a print and digital magazine issue, or a poetry anthology. The overall Poet of the Year, determined by the highest Judges’ Score and Community’s Score, will be honoured with additional accolades.

Submitting an entry is simple and free of charge.

Poets can submit their work by creating a listing through the Entry Submission Form on the BREW Poetry Award website. Entries must be in English, with a minimum length of four lines and up to 100 lines. All submissions should be original, unpublished, and not previously awarded. Each poet may submit multiple unique entries.

All entries must be received by 11:59 PM ACDT of 31 August 2024. Entries received after this date will be considered for the next year’s awards.
